Home security systems- How safe is your home?

I read in the papers there are robbers

With flashlights that shine in the dark

My love needs a doggie to protect him

And scare them away with one bark. – ‘How much is that doggie in the window?’
Patti Page couldn’t have put it any better and I’m sure that, doggie in the window, found a good home. But come to think of it how many families and how many homes, have a pet to bark or growl at the first sign of trouble?

We’ve grown reliant on the fact that brick & mortar can’t be broken, that doors can’t be unhinged.
Or, the reliable watchman to stay awake & keep a keen lookout for any untoward person or action.
“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”Who watches the watchmen? Juvenal’s words ring true even to this day of technologically evolved times.

So, what kind of a home owner are you? And what kind of a home protection plan, do you have in place? Are you thinking about the best security you can offer your family, because trust yourself when you read this. The bad guys don’t need an invite to raid your home, damage property or cause grievous harm.

All it takes is being aware and being prepared, to handle any such event in a calm and composed manner and take charge of the safety of your family & home.

There are a lot of security systems available in the market to choose from. A perimeter security system that works well for for those with small children, expensive household items, high crime area a large budget and with an idea of keeping any intruder out of the home.

24An interior security system, is ideal for those who spend a long time away from homes, have large, open rooms, young members, teens or no kids and a smaller budget.

Ultimately a combination of both, a hybrid security system, that works best in tandem, takes care of your most valued item, your life!

Here are a few key measures to take into account when you plan for your security system.

1] Smoke & CO2 Detectors:Are compact, Wi-Fi, have electro-chemical sensors, and come with a wall plug or are battery powered. They’re ideally placed in kitchens and rooms & are highly sensitive. They also have an end of life alarm to replace batteries.

2] Door & Window Protection:Door jambs and double dead bolts will do their job. An added measure like glass break or shock sensors, work well with doors and windows and will trigger alarms & lights which are a sure deterrent. CCTV monitored visual display door access and biometric entry scanners and locks add a resiliently strong touch to security.

3] Motion Detectors: Are available as radar based or photo sensitive. Whether the sound pattern is disturbed or a beam of light broken, alarms will ring! A more advanced system are passive infra red sensors that detect an intruders heat signature and designed to ring alarms when rapid changes of heat or energy levels are noticed.

4] CCTV:Lets you keep an eye on things when and where you’d least expect trouble. CCTV surveillance around the neighbourhood, in apartment complexes or placed on a high vantage point of a home, will let you see, identify, track & recognise any threat that comes your way. With integrated technologies like IP, IR & facial recognition CCTVs are the eyes you never had.

5] Monitored Alarm System:Are the latest innovation offered by private security agencies. Homes are monitored 24/7 and in the event of a burglary, the agency detects, recognises and openly challenges the intruder, thereby alerting emergency services.

The biggest contribution as a home-owner will be the power to act. these products and services are tools that work best for a family or home that believe in the Scout rule -’Be Prepared!’
